We install glue down and snap together vinyl plank, WPC planks, and COREtec/Adura Max, as well as glued down luxury vinyl tile with or without grout. Luxury vinyl offers a low-cost alternative to hardwood floors, laminates and porcelain tiles. It is durable and can go in kitchens, bathrooms, living rooms, dining rooms, garages, and any type of commercial space. It is much less fussy about subfloor imperfections than hard tile, which makes it a very nice option in rental properties. There is even a type of vinyl plank rated for a garage, a cheaper alternative to spray-on epoxy.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP)
Long boards that mimic hardwood. The usual pick for living areas, bedrooms, hallways and basements where you want a wood look that will not swell or cup.

Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT)

- •Glued-down LVT for a solid floor that reads more like real tile.

If you want the floor to genuinely pass for ceramic or stone, glued down vinyl tile with grout is the format that gets you there. The tradeoff is that grout joints demand a flatter subfloor than plank does, so we assess and level the substrate before we set anything. How much does luxury vinyl flooring cost in the Twin Cities?
Installed cost depends on the product tier, whether you want plank or tile, the room count, how much old flooring has to come out, and how much subfloor prep the house needs. A click-together floor over a flat, sound subfloor sits at the low end. A glued-down grouted tile install over a below-grade slab that needs moisture testing and a leveling pass sits higher, because grout joints demand a flatter substrate than plank does. Rigid core and WPC products cost more per square foot than entry-level vinyl but tolerate subfloor imperfection and moisture far better. What is the difference between luxury vinyl plank and luxury vinyl tile?
Luxury vinyl plank (LVP) is cut in long boards that mimic hardwood. Luxury vinyl tile (LVT) is cut in squares or rectangles and mimics stone, ceramic or porcelain. Pick plank when you want a wood look running through living areas. Pick tile when you want a stone or ceramic look in a kitchen, mudroom, entry or bathroom without the cold, the cracking or the grout maintenance of real porcelain. LVT also takes a real grout joint when it is glued down, which plank does not do. On a whole-home job it is common to run plank through the living space and tile in the wet rooms, which is what we did for Bob W in Minnetrista.
What is the difference between LVP, WPC, and rigid core (SPC)?
All three are click-together vinyl planks; the difference is the core. Standard LVP has a flexible vinyl core and is the thinnest and least expensive, which also makes it the least forgiving of an uneven subfloor. WPC uses a wood-plastic composite core that is thicker, warmer, and quieter underfoot, so it is a comfortable choice in living areas and bedrooms. Rigid core, often sold as SPC and including product lines like COREtec, uses a dense stone-plastic composite that resists dents and temperature swings best, which is why we usually spec it for kitchens, entries, basements, three-season porches, and rental turns. Can luxury vinyl tile be glued down with grout?
Yes. We install glued down vinyl tile with grout when a client wants the finished floor to read like real ceramic or stone. The tiles are set in adhesive with a spacing gap, then a flexible acrylic grout is worked into the joints. The result gives you the grout lines and the visual weight of a porcelain floor with the warmth, quieter footfall, and forgiving feel of vinyl underfoot, which matters through a Minnesota winter. Grouted glue-down tile needs a flatter subfloor than a floating floor, so we assess and prep the substrate before we set anything.
Can luxury vinyl go over an existing floor or a concrete basement slab?
Often, yes, and that is one of the real advantages of the product. A floating floor can go over sound, well-bonded existing vinyl or tile if the surface is flat and clean, which saves the cost and mess of tear-out. Over a concrete basement slab we test for moisture first, then flatten any low spots and set the correct underlayment. This matters in the west metro, where clay-heavy soils around Victoria, Chanhassen, and Chaska hold spring melt against foundation walls. We assess the substrate on the measure visit rather than assuming, because a floor laid over a slab that is still passing moisture will telegraph or cup later.
Is luxury vinyl waterproof enough for a kitchen, bathroom, or basement?
The plank or tile itself is waterproof on rigid core and WPC products, which is why luxury vinyl has largely replaced laminate in kitchens, baths, mudrooms, laundry rooms, and basements. What matters just as much is the perimeter and the transitions: standing water finds seams and edges, not the middle of a board. We seal at tubs, toilets, and dishwasher openings and set transitions so spills stay on top of the floor. Handled that way, a luxury vinyl floor tolerates a burst supply line or a leaking dishwasher in a way hardwood or laminate simply does not.
Can you install vinyl plank in a garage instead of epoxy?
Yes. There is a category of vinyl plank rated for garage floors, and it is a genuinely cheaper and faster alternative to a sprayed-on epoxy coating. It goes down over a prepped slab, hides slab cracking and pitting rather than highlighting it the way a clear coating does, and it can be lifted and replaced in sections if a section gets damaged. It also feels warmer underfoot than bare concrete through a Minnesota winter. How long does a luxury vinyl installation take?
Most single-room floating installs finish in a day. A main level spanning a kitchen, entry, and hallway usually runs one to two days. A glue-down install takes longer because the adhesive needs cure time before the floor takes traffic, and a grouted tile floor takes longer still, since the grout has to cure and the subfloor prep is more involved to get the joints flat and even. Any leveling pass has to dry before anything goes down. We confirm the timeline in your written estimate so you can plan furniture, appliance disconnects, and painting around it.
